Ohio Brew Week is Ohio's original and longest-running craft beer celebration, taking over the bars, restaurants, and breweries of uptown Athens for nine full days each July. The 21st Annual edition runs July 10-18, 2026, showcasing hundreds of beers, ciders, meads, and more from dozens of Ohio breweries across 30+ participating venues. Rather than a single-venue festival, Ohio Brew Week transforms the entire college town of Athens into a sprawling, walkable beer destination.
The event operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and is free to attend — guests simply visit participating venues and purchase beers individually. Throughout the week, a packed calendar of events includes concerts, BBQ cookouts, "Meet the Brewer" sessions, trivia nights, cornhole tournaments, pool tournaments, golf outings, karaoke, and even a haunted tour. The week culminates in Last Call, a signature event drawing thousands to a single venue for a grand finale celebration.
With over 330 craft beers, wines, ciders, and meads available across the festival, Ohio Brew Week offers an unparalleled depth of Ohio-brewed beverages in one of the state's most charming small towns.
Ohio Brew Week was founded in 2006 by Dan Gates, who served as the festival's first director. The idea was simple but ambitious: transform Athens — home to Ohio University and already known for its vibrant bar scene — into a week-long showcase for Ohio's burgeoning craft beer industry. In that inaugural year, over 70 Ohio craft brews were available at 36 venues throughout the uptown area.
The festival quickly outgrew its modest beginnings. By its 10th anniversary in 2015, Ohio Brew Week was setting records for attendance and beer sales. The number of participating breweries grew from a handful to over 45 by 2016, and the beer list expanded to include ciders, meads, and other craft beverages. The event became a beloved annual tradition for both Ohio University alumni and beer enthusiasts from across the state.
Now entering its 21st year, Ohio Brew Week has cemented its place as one of the Midwest's most unique beer events — not a single-day festival, but a nine-day immersion in Ohio's craft beer culture, spread across an entire town.
