The Garden City Brewfest is Missoula's longest-running beer festival, celebrating its 32nd year in 2026. Organized by the Downtown Missoula Partnership, the free-admission event takes place on Saturday, May 2 from noon to 7 PM at Caras Park along the Clark Fork River. The festival is open to all ages, though you must be 21 or older to purchase tastings.
Admission is free. To sample, attendees purchase a taster cup (7 oz) or limited edition mug (12 oz), each with four tasting tokens. Additional tokens are $2 each. Cash and credit cards accepted. The festival features over 60 local and regional beers, seltzers, and ciders alongside a wine bar, food vendors, and live music.
The Garden City Brewfest launched in 1995, making it one of Montana's oldest and most established beer festivals. Organized by the Downtown Missoula Partnership, the event was created to celebrate Missoula's growing craft beer culture and draw people to the downtown riverfront. Over 32 years, it has become a beloved tradition that marks the arrival of spring in western Montana.
Caras Park, the festival's home since its inception, is Missoula's premier outdoor gathering space along the Clark Fork River with mountain views. The park's central location naturally ties the brewfest into Missoula's vibrant downtown scene. On brewfest day, the park fills with locals and visitors who treat it as much a community gathering as a beer tasting.
What makes the Garden City Brewfest distinctive is its free-admission, pay-as-you-go model. Unlike most beer festivals requiring an upfront ticket, anyone can walk in and enjoy the music, food, and atmosphere. Those who want to taste purchase cups and tokens individually, making it a flexible, low-pressure experience that reflects Missoula's egalitarian, community-first ethos.
