Swine & Stein Brewfest is an annual fall craft beverage festival held in the streets of historic downtown Gardiner, Maine. Presented by Camden National Bank and organized by Gardiner Main Street, the festival celebrates the diversity of Maine's craft beverage producers with all-day sampling from breweries, wineries, cideries, distilleries, and meaderies. Now in its 17th year, Swine & Stein transforms Water Street into an open-air tasting room where craft beverages meet smoked pork, live music, food vendors, and community spirit.
The 2026 Swine & Stein Brewfest is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, from 12:00 to 5:00 PM, with VIP gates opening at 11:00 AM. VIP tickets are $55, while General Admission ranges from $40 to $55. Designated drivers and attendees ages 18-20 pay $10. Children under 18 are free with an accompanying adult. The event features 22+ craft beverage producers from across Maine.
In 2009, the organizers behind Gardiner Main Street had an idea that seemed perfectly suited to small-town Maine: close down Water Street in the heart of their historic downtown, invite the state's craft beverage producers to set up shop, smoke some pork, book some bands, and see who shows up. Swine & Stein Brewfest was born from that straightforward premise, and seventeen years later, it has become one of Maine's most beloved fall festivals -- a testament to what happens when good beer, good food, and genuine community spirit come together in the right setting.
The festival's name tells you exactly what to expect. The "Swine" refers to the smoked pork that anchors the food offerings, while the "Stein" covers everything liquid -- not just beer, but wine, cider, mead, and craft spirits from more than twenty Maine producers. The street-festival format gives Swine & Stein a warmth and intimacy that larger venue-based festivals struggle to match. Attendees wander the brick-lined blocks of Water Street, ducking into tasting stations set up in front of the town's shops and storefronts.
What started as a local event has grown to draw 700-plus attendees from across Maine and beyond, with VIP tickets regularly selling out in advance. For Gardiner, a small Kennebec River town that has worked hard to revitalize its downtown, Swine & Stein is both a celebration and an economic engine. The October timing puts it squarely in peak foliage season, giving out-of-town visitors one more reason to make the trip.
